Dr. Paul Gross is a scientist and expert on cardiovascular and brain physiology. He has done extensive award-winning, published research on the brain, cardiovascular system, bones and antioxidant drugs. It was during his work on antioxidant drugs in 1993 that he began to envision great-tasting, convenient nutritional supplements such as those now made by Berry Wise™.
Dr. Gross has a Master of Science degree from the University of Illinois as well as a PhD in Physiology from the University of Glasgow, Scotland. During his career, he has held several positions including a neuroscience fellowship, Laboratory of Cerebral Metabolism at the US National Institutes of Health, Associate Professor of Surgery & Physiology, Queen's University and Director of Neurosurgical Research – Kingston General Hospital. He co-founded Neurochem Inc., a neuroscience biotechnology company in 1992 and an international clinical trials management company, CroMedica Inc., in 1997.
The Karger Foundation of Switzerland recognized Dr. Gross’ research on brain blood vessels with their 1986 Memorial Award while the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario appointed him as Research Scholar for 1987 – 1992.
Dr. Gross is a founding member of the International Berry Health Association based in Oregon and currently sits on the steering committee. He has published 85 peer reviewed papers or chapters and co-authored a book on the Chinese wolfberry (Lycium barbarum L) (2006) with X. Zhang and R. Zhang. Two additional books are underway, both of which are focused in the antioxidant functional foods and phytochemical arena.
Awarded a First Dan black belt in the Korean martial art of taekwondo at age 53, Dr. Gross maintains a high level of careful nutrition and physical fitness daily.
